Diversity of magnetar-driven kilonovae
A non-negligible fraction of binary neutron star mergers are expected to form a long-lived neutron star remnant, dramatically altering the multi-messenger signatures of a binary neutron star merger. Here I will explore the diversity of kilonovae and kilonova afterglows expected from such mergers by focusing on the role of the uncertain magnetic field strengths and gravitational-wave emission mechanisms. I will discuss the different diagnostics available to identify magnetar-driven kilonovae in serendipitous observations and highlight potential pitfalls that may plague detailed inferences of observations.
